Developers presented a script that allows Bitcoin miners to select blocks that don’t contain digital artifacts generated with the Ordinals protocol. The script automatically rejects blocks with ordinals at the node level.
One of the developers of the NFT collection Taproot Wizards said that he created a special script for miners that helps select blocks for approval, excluding those with Bitcoin Ordinals digital artifacts embedded in them.
According to the developer, it took about 15 minutes to build the script. He also admitted that the script wasn’t flawless and could be easily bypassed. However, this doesn’t prevent it from performing its main function — allowing the node to reject blocks with ordinals.
The script’s creator also expressed confidence that there wouldn’t be many people willing to use it, despite the widespread criticism of the Ordinals protocol. The initiative was a “Christmas gift” for all those who express skepticism about digital artifacts. The creator urged critics of Ordinals to run the code and prove in practice their negative attitude towards the protocol.
James Check, Analyst at Glassnode, said the script was unlikely to gain popularity because it effectively rendered the node unusable. He said that the developer’s initiative was just intended to demonstrate the fact that critics of Ordinals were in the minority.
Users of the Ordinals protocol generate about 85% of activity on the network of the first cryptocurrency and increase the profitability of Bitcoin mining.
