FTX Executive Ryan Salame Requests Second Prison Surrender Delay

Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has once again requested to push back his prison surrender date on charges stemming from his time at Sam Bankman-Fried’s doomed crypto exchange.

FTX Executive Ryan Salame Asks For More Time

According to an October 9 court filing in the Southern District of New York, Salame’s counsel requested that his October 11 prison report date be pushed back to December 7 “so that he may receive continuing medical treatment deemed necessary by his treating physician to recover from the injuries sustained on or about June 19, 2024.”

Salame was notably mauled by a dog early this past summer, with court documents indicating that the former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets suffered a “dog-bite injury to the face.”

This led to his original prison report date of August 29 being pushed to this month after he had to “undergo urgent and necessary medical treatment and surgery” following the attack.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Allies Face The Music

News of Salome’s request comes after the former Sam Bankman-Fried ally attempted to withdraw his guilty plea following the indictment of his partner, one-time congressional hopeful Michelle Bond, on campaign finance violations.

Salame claimed that federal prosecutors had struck a deal with him, agreeing they would stop investigating Bond if he ultimately pleaded guilty to his crimes at the now-defunct crypto exchange.

When Bond was charged, Salame attempted to reverse his plea – much to the chagrin of presiding Judge Lewis Kaplan, who threatened to sanction the ex-crypto executive for seemingly perjuring himself.

Salame, who refused to comply with U.S. prosecutors during the landmark 2023 trial of Sam Bankman-Fried, will be the first former SBF ally to begin his time behind bars.

One-time Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison, who was recently sentenced to two years in prison for the massive crypto fraud scheme, is slated to report to prison for her two-year prison sentence on November 7.

Meanwhile, Bankman-Fried is currently serving 25 years at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York for orchestrating the crypto scam. Reports are emerging that he shares a housing unit with Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Should his request for additional time fail, Salame will begin his 7.5-year prison sentence at a federal correctional facility on Friday. He has also been ordered to pay $11 million in fines and restitution.
