Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has received a MiCA license and announced the opening of its new European headquarters in Vienna. The company plans to hire over 100 employees and expand its suite of localized, regulated services across the EU.

Bybit Receives European MiCA License

Bybit, the world’s second-largest crypto exchange by trading volume, announced that it had received a license from the Austrian Financial Markets Authority (FMA). It will allow the company to provide regulated cryptocurrency services in the European Economic Area (EEA).

With the new license, nearly 500 million users in the EU will have access to the Bybit cryptocurrency products. The exchange will operate in the region in full compliance with the pan-European regulation of digital assets under the MiCA regulation.

Ben Zhou, CEO of Bybit, said that obtaining this license is a key step in the company’s global growth strategy, prioritizing transparency, combating financial crime, and protecting users. Zhou also emphasized that the company will work closely with European regulators as part of its compliance with regulatory standards.

Also, the company announced the official opening of its European headquarters in Vienna. According to Mazurka Zeng, CEO of Bybit in Europe, they plan to create over 100 jobs in Austria and significantly contribute to the country’s innovation ecosystem. Thus, according to her, Bybit aims to actively participate in developing the local blockchain community through the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) initiative, including cooperation with universities in the region and developing applied blockchain projects.

The Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation was approved by the European Council in April 2023 and came into effect in January 2025. Many crypto companies have since begun actively obtaining MiCA licenses in different regions. For example, the Stuttgart Stock Exchange has received authorization from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), and Circle has received approval from the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR).
