Vitalik Buterin revealed the plans of Ethereum developers for the coming year. In 2024, they’ll focus on ensuring the consensus stability, increasing network scalability and solving the problems of economic centralization.
Co-Founder of Ethereum Vitalik Buterin presented the technical roadmap of the blockchain network, highlighting its minor changes compared to last year’s roadmap.
Ethereum’s roadmap, just like last year, consists of six stages:
- Merge. Maintaining the stability of the PoS consensus algorithm, which the network switched to in September 2022.
- Surge. Improving the scalability of the blockchain network, with a primary goal of 100,000 transactions per second.
- Scourge. Reducing network centralization risks, which are related to MEV protocols and liquid assets.
- Verge. Facilitating blockchain verification.
- Purge. Simplifying the protocol for dApps developers and users.
- Splurge. Other Ethereum improvements.
The first network update is scheduled for January. The Dencun hard fork is designed to reduce the level of transaction costs on the network, thus increasing Ethereum’s competitiveness. To test the update, developers will use the Goerli network for the last time. Once the hard fork is launched, its support will be completely discontinued. Dencun is intended to simplify data exchange between the core network and Layer 2 protocols through the use of Proto-Danksharding, which will lower commission costs and improve network scalability.
In 2024, the developers also plan to develop the concept of account abstraction that provides users with secure access to social networks and reduces transaction costs.
On New Year’s Eve, Vitalik Buterin shared how the ideas of cypherpunks influenced the creation of Ethereum.
