In the future, managers will be able to assess psychological and physiological states of employees and the work environment thanks to industrial Metaverse projects.
A group of scientists from Tampere University in Finland published an article titled “MetaStates: An Approach for Representing Human Workers Psychophysiological States in the Industrial Metaverse.” In their work, the researchers analyzed the prospects of introducing Metaverse technologies into team management processes.
According to the scientists, employees in virtual space will be represented by digital twins, called “Metahumans.” Moreover, employees will receive both graphical and qualitative representation in virtual space — their emotions, cognitive states, and physical conditions will be digitized by scanning facial expressions and other indicators.
Thanks to this, digital twins will possess certain characteristics. A manager will be able to analyze them in real-time and instantly access the general statistics of a particular “MetaHuman.” Metaverse developments will enable the use of digitized psychophysiological states of employees to optimize and manage HR processes, which will become similar to a video game.
In addition, industrial Metaverse projects will make it possible to monitor and control the working environment, productivity, schedule compliance, and other indicators of labor efficiency of individual employees, including subjective factors such as mood, health, stress level, and others.
According to the researchers, the introduction of such systems will allow managers to improve the efficiency of operational and HR processes significantly. Besides, the obtained data can be used to develop simulations and algorithms for industrial modeling. This will aid in identifying optimal strategies for managing processes and employees, increasing overall productivity and improving safety measures.
Metaverse technologies are already being implemented in various spheres. For example, the Mumbai Metaverse Metropolis was launched in Mumbai. This project enables the detailed study of all large-scale infrastructure projects in virtual space. In 2023, the Metaverse healthcare industry was estimated at almost $9 billion. According to analysts, it has the potential to grow by more than 5,500% over the next ten years.
