Interactive Brokers Considers Launching Its Own Stablecoin

Brokerage firm Interactive Brokers is exploring the possibility of issuing its own stablecoin to enable 24/7 account funding and crypto transfers for its clients.

Interactive Brokers Considers Launching Its Own Stablecoin

Interactive Brokers (IBKR), a large American multinational brokerage company, is considering either launching its own stablecoin or supporting existing highly trusted stablecoins, Reuters reports.

Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. is one of the largest discount brokers, with a client base of 3.87 million accounts as of June 2025. The company manages over $664 billion in assets.

Company leadership is evaluating the launch of a proprietary stablecoin to provide round-the-clock deposits, instant transfers, and integration with its traditional brokerage platform. According to Thomas Peterffy, Founder of IBKR, client demand became the main driver for exploring stable assets. Although Peterffy admits he personally can’t yet fully appreciate the fundamental value of cryptocurrencies, client demand clearly signals the case for enabling stablecoin use.

Max Krupyshev, CEO of CoinsPaid, spoke about stablecoins becoming a new universal payment method. In his opinion, stablecoins are becoming an important element for conducting international business. “Today, businesses view stablecoins as a convenient, global, and functional payment tool,” Max stated.

IBKR’s initiative emerged shortly after the U.S. authorities passed the GENIUS Act, a bill introducing a federal regulatory framework for stablecoins along with strict requirements for their issuers. Peterffy said that increased regulation provides the company with another option besides issuing its own stable asset, namely supporting existing stablecoins. However, he emphasized that issuers of such assets must earn trust by fully complying with transparency and reliability standards.

American banks Citigroup and JPMorgan, as well as some FinTech companies like Stripe and Alchemy Pay, are also planning to launch their own stablecoins.
