In 2025, Japan will issue its first cryptocurrency credit card fully compliant with the country’s crypto and payment regulations.

Japan to Launch Its First Cryptocurrency Card in 2025

Slash Vision Labs announced the release of Slash Card, Japan’s first crypto credit card. This project will be implemented together with a local credit card issuer, though specific details remain unknown. While the exact launch date is still to be announced, the company confirmed its plans to launch the card in 2025.

According to the press release, Slash Vision Labs is developing Slash Payment, a comprehensive crypto payment ecosystem in Japan, starting in 2022. The company partnered with SoftBank Payment, LifeCard, and Solana’s Superteam Japan. Currently, more than 4,000 merchants use Slash Payment services, processing transactions worth over $180 million. The official website states that the platform supports 10 blockchains and allows merchants to accept almost any cryptocurrency.

Slash Vision Labs aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and cryptocurrency while promoting modern Japanese culture through Web3 technologies. The company supports Chiitan Coin (CTAN), a meme coin inspired by Chiitan, the self-proclaimed mascot of Susaki. Additionally, it provides payment services for Comilio, a manga publishing platform.

The press release notes that the release of Slash Card is expected to make crypto payments more accessible in Japan, offering unique opportunities for both global and local crypto projects to engage with users inside and outside the country.

Japan is actively supporting the Web3 industry. In early September 2024, the country launched a platform for using stablecoins in international settlements, backed by Japan’s major financial institutions.
