Technology giant Bitdeer announced the release of new chips to significantly improve Bitcoin mining by reducing power consumption, costs, and the environmental footprint of BTC mining.
Representatives of Bitdeer, one of the leaders in high-performance computing, revealed the success of R&D efforts to improve the SEALMINER Bitcoin mining machine.
According to the press release, the following chips for mining rigs are planned for the foreseeable future:
- SEAL01. Energy efficiency is 18.1 J/TH, released in Q1 2024. The power consumption of the rig ranges from 20 J/TH to 23 J/TH. Mass production is underway, with the first batch going on sale in Q3 2024.
- SEAL02. Expected energy efficiency is 14 J/TH, scheduled for release in Q3 2024. Optimized energy consumption will range from 15 J/TH to 16.5 J/TH. Mass production and deliveries will begin in Q4 2024.
- SEAL03. Expected energy efficiency is 10 J/TH, scheduled for release in Q4 2024. Optimized energy consumption will be 11 J/TH to 12 J/TH. Mass production and sales will start in Q2 2025.
- SEAL04. Expected energy efficiency is 5 J/TH, scheduled for release in Q2 2025. Optimized energy consumption will range from 5.5 J/TH to 6 J/TH. Mass production and deliveries are planned for Q4 2025.
The average power consumption of mining rigs is currently 29 J/TH. The SEAL04 chip could potentially reduce consumption by almost five times, which would significantly increase mining energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and lower environmental impact.
On average, mining 1 BTC requires 854,403.71 kW⋅h of electricity, making Bitcoin mining unprofitable. To improve the efficiency of the process, Block recently completed the development of three-nanometer chips for Bitcoin mining.
