Avalanche-Based Web3 Vouchers Appear on Alipay+ D-store

Alipay, one of the world’s largest payment systems, is conducting a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) of a Web3 voucher system based on Avalanche. Upon successful testing of the project, it’ll be scaled and up to 100 million users will have access to Web3 vouchers.

The Avalanche team announced a partnership with the Alipay payment system to deploy a Web3 voucher program for users of the Alipay+ D-store marketplace. During the first phase of testing the system, users will be able to receive vouchers with discounts of up to 50% on products from ten popular milk tea brands in over 500 stores in Southeast Asia. More than 2,000 more stores will soon join the system.

Users can get vouchers by playing a branded mini game on the Alipay+ D-store platform. To receive a Web3 voucher, users will also need to connect one of the e-wallets that cooperate with Alipay. The discount can be used when making a purchase in one of the participating stores.

Vouchers will be hosted on the Avalanche subnet, created and managed by the Web3 service AvaCloud. If the first phase is successful, the project will be scaled to include food and beverage merchants with a user base of over 100 million in Southeast Asia, including those visiting the local country as tourists.

The press release reports that using AvaCloud allows developers to deploy their own EVM-compliant subnets with their desired privacy settings. Ava Labs provides infrastructure maintenance. It’s noted that subnets based on AvaCloud are already tested by such companies as Amazon Web Services, Deloitte, and SK Planet.

It recently became known that the iconic online game MapleStory will get a Web3 version — the MapleStory N project, which is planned to be deployed on Avalanche by the end of 2024.
