Bitget Wallet launched a zero-fee crypto card on the Mastercard payment network. The new product allows users to pay directly from their decentralized wallet at over 150 million merchants worldwide.
The Bitget Wallet team confirmed the launch of a new crypto card developed jointly with Mastercard and Immersve, enabling users to spend digital assets directly from their wallet without issuance or top-up fees. According to a previously released press statement, the card is already available to users in the U.K. and EU countries, with plans to expand to Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
The Bitget Wallet Card is integrated into the wallet’s mobile app and supports instant top-ups via on-chain swaps using the USDC stablecoin issued on the Base L2 blockchain. Bitget Wallet users can create a virtual card within minutes and add it to their mobile wallet for use in offline stores and online platforms.
A key technical solution is the involvement of licensed issuer Immersve, which provides on-chain crypto-to-fiat conversion while complying with all regulatory requirements, including KYC and AML procedures. At the same time, users retain control over their assets, funds remain in the wallet until spent, and top-ups occur without custodial involvement.
Jamie Elkaleh, Bitget Wallet’s CMO, commented on the launch, noting growing demand for microtransactions using crypto. He cited data from the European Central Bank showing that in the eurozone, transactions under €10 make up 45% of all crypto card operations, and online payments account for 40%, nearly double the share for regular bank cards.
He also referenced the Bitget Wallet Onchain Report, stating that 37% of users in Western Europe and 41% in Eastern Europe already primarily use the wallet for payments. Additionally, up to 60% of users in Southeast Asia and more than 40% in Latin America already use crypto wallets for everyday transactions. However, existing solutions suffer from high fees and limited self-custody options. Bitget Wallet Card removes these barriers by offering zero fees, a non-custodial asset management model, and instant transaction confirmation.
In September 2024, a crypto debit card by MetaMask, issued jointly with Mastercard and Baanx, became available to users in the EU and U.K.
